Explore the Solar System on a Scenic Mountain Walk in Les Gets
Just one of the many wonderful things to do in Les Gets during the summer is walking in the mountains. There is something for everyone from gentle family strolls to more challenging hikes.
One particularly memorable walk is the Mont Chéry to Mont Caly loop which offers stunning panoramic views especially of Mont Blanc. Best of all you can take the Mont Chéry gondola up to the mid station which saves your legs for the views and exploration. At the top you can stop for a coffee and take in the scenery from Le Belvédère restaurant. This is also a great place for a framed family photo with Mont Blanc in the background.

From here follow the trail towards Mont Caly and enjoy a unique and educational experience along the way. The Planète Trail is a scale model of the solar system and lets you walk from planet to planet with each step representing one million kilometres of space. The trail begins with Uranus at Mont Chéry and stretches all the way to the Sun at Mont Caly. Children will love spotting the planet markers and scanning QR codes to discover fun facts that bring astronomy to life.
You can also start the walk at the Mont Caly end by taking the petit train from the village. This way you begin your journey at the Sun and work your way through the solar system towards Neptune finishing near the gondola station. Whichever direction you choose the trail offers spectacular Alpine views and a relaxed walking experience suitable for most abilities.
Lunch is another highlight along this route. There are two lovely restaurants serving delicious Savoyard food on sunny terraces with views of Mont Blanc. Le Belvédère at the top of the Mont Chery bubble and Les Chevrelles at the other end at Mont Caly. Both are very popular restaurants with locals and tourists, so it is a good idea to book in advance.
If you complete the trail there is a short quiz waiting for you at the Tourist Office. Get all the answers right and you will receive a small reward.
