My first stay in a fully catered chalet

Wow! Just Wow! My first stay in the fully catered chalet that is Chalet Bluebell, though I am more used to self-catering. Chalet Bluebell can also be B&B. The warm welcome from Dale who transported my daughter and I from Geneva airport through to the drop off by George a week later and everything in between was such a fantastic experience.

Winter Activities in Les Gets

Jane and Rob have created a real gem on the edge of Les Gets in the Haute-Savoie department of France. It felt immediately like home from home in fact.

Chalet Bluebell is set slightly back from the road to Morzine, road noise was never an issue. The chalet is decorated in a traditional Savoyard style. Our accommodation was perfect for our needs and was warm and extremely comfortable. Our bedroom windows gave us stunning mountain views.

Jane and Rob are so welcoming as are their chalet host’s – this season Kate and Jim. I really enjoyed not having to think of anything other than what I might do on any given day. The team are full of ideas of things to do, places to go etc.

Amazing food

The food is amazing thanks to chef Jiri. Nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast and dinner following pre-dinner canapés and drinks are taken with other guests, many of whom are returners several times over. Mealtime conversation was so much fun. Refreshments including freshly made cakes are provided for guests return after their day’s adventures.

So, what could I a non-skier in a ski resort actually do? A huge amount as it turns out. Thanks to Jane’s knowledge I contacted Vivienne at DaysAway Adventures and booked myself on to their Beginners introduction to snow shoeing.  I enjoyed the session so much that I booked myself onto a further two sessions, one of which was to watch the sunset.

Exploring Les Gets

I explored Les Gets, visited the Museum of Mechanical Music and Alta Lumina, all of which were charming. (photos) I spent a few hours in nearby Morzine; went up in a cable car to experience the breath taking views above the town. Likewise in Les Gets itself. A ride on the Mont Chery lift followed by a walk across to Mont Caly and lunch at Les Chevrelles over looking Mont Blanc, sadly hidden behind cloud on this occasion.

On the last day I travelled up to Avoriaz with my daughter and others, achieving my first ever ride on a chair lift. All credit to Jane’s calm presence and unending patience in the face of my being absolutely terrified. So glad I did it.

Chalet Bluebell is a wonderful experience and one I would love to repeat at some stage. I returned home feeling well looked after, fully refreshed and more than a little chuffed about the ‘1sts’ I had managed to experience. Thanks so much Jane, Rob and team. I had a blast. Xh
