Best things to do in Les Gets in Summer

Les Gets Water Park

The summer months from June through to September in Les Gets offer a completely different rhythm to the frenetic energy of the winter ski season. When the snow melts, the white pistes are replaced by lush green alpine meadows, revealing a brilliant network of hiking, walking, running and mountain biking trails and a wonderfully relaxed village atmosphere.

Whether you’re a family looking to keep the kids entertained outdoors, or a couple wanting a mix of relaxation and adventure, here are some ideas why a summer holiday in the mountains might just be your new favourite getaway.

Biking for everyone

If you love life on two wheels, you are in the right place. Les Gets is widely considered a mountain biking mecca. The Les Gets chairlifts are open from mid June to mid-September and every weekend from mid-May.

  • Mountain biking in Les Gets: There are 128 kilometres of marked trails for all levels, from World Cup downhill runs to safe, scenic cross-country routes for families. The lift system is open to take the heavy legwork out of the uphill climbs. The lift system and trails link to Morzine and Avoriaz too.
  • E-bikes: There are e-bike hire stations dotted all around the village, which are perfect for exploring the town.
  • Road cycling: Test your grit on the Col de Joux Plane or follow the legendary tracks of the Tour de France along the Route des Grandes Alpes. To make your days out easier, we can offer a vehicle support service from Chalet Bluebell.

Hiking, walking and trail running

If you prefer keeping your feet firmly on the ground, Les Gets is an absolute walker’s paradise.

  • Mont Chéry & Chavannes: Head up Mont Chéry for the most consistent, stunning sightlines of the Mont Blanc massif. Don’t forget that you can also explore the trails on the Chavannes side, and the chairlifts are open for pedestrians too, making it easy to access the higher peaks. On Mont Chery is a wonderful circular route following the solar system as seen from various points along the way. Read more here.
  • Take it at your own pace: Enjoy a gentle family stroll to find the perfect picnic spot, or challenge yourself to a day-long hike to observe the local alpine flora. At Chalet Bluebell, we have all the hiking and walking trail maps for you and will help you plan your day according to your ability.
  • Trail running in Les Gets: Feeling energetic? There are 48 permanently marked trail running routes accessible via the ski lifts.

Watersports and cooling off

Mountain holidays aren’t just about dry land; there are plenty of ways to make a splash.

  • Lac des Écoles: A short walk from the village, this freshwater swimming lake is the centre of afternoon life. The water temperature averages a pleasant 22°C through the summer and the kids will spend hours tackling the ‘Wibit’ inflatable aqua park while parents relax on the grassy beaches. You’ll find a bar and restaurant there too for snacks, drinks and lunches.
  • Our private boat: A unique perk for Chalet Bluebell guests is our private power boat on Lac Léman (Lake Geneva). Just a short drive away, you can join us for an exclusive day of waterskiing, wakeboarding, or simply swimming in the deep, clear water far from the tourist crowds.
  • River thrills: Try white-water rafting on the river Dranse, or go canyoning for a proper adrenaline rush.

Brilliant family fun

You definitely won’t hear “I’m bored” on this holiday.

  • The Four-Seasons Luge: Located at the Perrières, this alpine coaster on rails provides 1100 metres of twists and turns, hitting speeds of up to 40km per hour.
  • Alta Lumina: As night falls, the forest transforms into a magical, immersive light and sound trail. It tells the story of a travelling music-maker and feels just like stepping into a fairytale.

Culture, food and fantastic restaurants

The local food culture is deeply tied to the mountains and Les Gets has an incredible reputation for its dining scene.

  • A World of cuisine: Whether you are looking for traditional Savoyard dishes, modern French cuisine, takeaway pizzas, sushi, or gourmet burgers, the village restaurants have something for everyone. If you fancy a scenic lunch, Jane and Rob can suggest the best mountain restaurants with sunny terraces. And if you want to drive a little further afield, there are now two Michelin-starred restaurants down in the valley!
  • Local produce: Visit the local cheese farm to see the production process, or browse the Thursday morning market for regional honey, saucisson, and artisanal goods.
  • Museum of Mechanical Music: A genuine local treasure housing over 800 working instruments dating back to the 17th century—an excellent place to spend a quiet hour.

  • Les Gets 18-hole golf course: Play a round on the technically interesting 18-hole golf course, boasting fabulous views of Mont Blanc.
